Bad Dentistry - Dentist Lost Sight of Patient Due to Profit Motive

What follows below is a real case study submitted by a reader of this website. It describes how their health was harmed by bad dentistry.

About 10 years ago, I consulted my dentist about making a fixed bridge for me. I already had a partial plate that I purchased from him. He wasn't sure if he could do this bridge because it was a long span of 3 teeth, the anchoring molar was tipped, and 3 teeth would have to be ground down to do it. He consulted with his lab and told me he could do it. It didn't work, it kept popping off and eventually I dropped it and chipped the enamel. He told me that it couldn't be fixed and I'd have to pay for another fixed bridge. I didn't want another one since the first one was a failure and asked him to cap the 3 teeth that had been drilled down. He refused to cap them, but offered no other solution. Eventually I had to have a root canal in two of them and later all 3 were pulled and I had to have another partial made. This left me with very few teeth on the lower jaw. What an expensive mistake that was.

On another occasion, he filled a cavity in a front tooth, but sloppily had it joined with the filling in the next tooth. This caused the filling in the second tooth to loosen and fall out. I discovered later, that he hadn't removed all the decay from the original tooth before he filled it.

Ramiel Nagel's (author of Cure Tooth Decay) comments:

This is a very interesting case. The dentist actually had a sense of what was right for the patient. To leave the teeth alone and not do this larger bridge. But the dentist didn't listen to himself. When there is a good chunk of money on the table, it is easy to make mistakes. The dentist learned his lesson and then went to the other extreme, and refused to care for the teeth in any way. Unfortunately in the end, it is the patient who lost out, she lost many of her teeth.

Why Bad Dentistry?

I decided to create an area on my website to focus on bad dentistry. Many people have kept quiet about the mistreatment of their teeth by dentists. I do not encourage people to avoid dentists, but in order to get people to go to the dentist, the dentist must provide excellent care. Unfortunately most do not. This list can help you find a good dentist.

Modern dentistry, in general, damages our teeth. It drills away too much healthy tooth structure. It places toxic materials in our mouths, and recommends treatments that don't last over the long term. Moving beyond bad dentistry means using the book, Cure Tooth Decay, to help you remineralize your cavities naturally.

You can submit a story about how dentistry has negatively harmed your life by sending an e-mail to: testimonial@curetoothdecay.com
Make sure to include the name you want posted on your testimonial, a little bit about yourself, and how you were harmed by bad dentistry. You do not need to remain silent about the harm done to your mouth. Because I do not want to be in the middle of any type of dispute I will not post the name of the bad dentist.
