  You have probably sat in the dentist’s office and heard instructions on how to clean your mouth efficiently. The technique that is widely recommended is to brush the teeth in a back-and-forth motion; however, this type of brushing actually causes plaque to be pushed into the gum line.

  Before you consider how to clean your teeth and gums, you should learn what actually causes plaque and how you can prevent it. The truth is that even people who brush their teeth several times per day are still affected by tooth decay and cavities. This isn't to say that cleaning your teeth and gums is not important, as it is a necessary part of maintaining a healthy mouth. The key is to clean your mouth in the appropriate way.

  Toothpaste should be avoided when cleaning the teeth, as it contains chemicals and abrasives that can be harmful. Many toothpastes also contain fluoride, which is actually a toxic substance that prevents remineralization - an essential part of curing cavities naturally. Tooth soap is the preferred alternative, as it is a natural product that does not use harsh detergents. Tooth herbs, tooth liquid and tooth powder are also preferred over using toothpaste.

  Commercial toothbrushes do not allow you to clean the teeth and gums properly. Specialized gum cleaning brushes feature a different type of bristle that is specifically made for removing plaque and build-up along the gum line. By using a simple gum cleaning technique, you can properly clean your teeth and gums without causing damage to your mouth.

  An alternative cleaning technique is by using a Miswak Stick. In ancient civilizations, people would clean their teeth and gums with the use of sticks. The types of sticks that were chosen usually had medicinal properties. As the person chewed on the stick, the fibers would separate and effectively clean between and around the teeth. Today, Miswak Sticks can be used to achieve the same type of cleaning technique that was used centuries ago.
